I rarely do whirlwind-type things. It's not in my personality. But when my best friend, Jonny, passed away, I felt I needed to move heaven & earth to be at his memorial service in South Carolina. I wasn't just going to represent our friendship- which was close, and got me through some very tough times. I was also going to represent Sam, and how Jonny had basically introduced us. I was going to represent all the wonderful people who knew Jonny from the Tolkien messageboards where we had all met & gotten to know one another. I wanted to share how real our friendships had been, and how keenly the loss of Jonny was felt.
Along for the journey was our beloved mutual friend (and the lovely lady who married Sam and I), Gina. Words cannot express to Gina how amazing it was to have someone to lean on from the journey of North Carolina to the South.
An extra blessing was the gift the Bedell's gave to all who went to the memorial service- They had taken Jonny's personal belongings, and created a journey through part of the funeral home, a journey through Jonny's short life. It was beautiful and moving, and I'm so glad I had grabbed my film camera when I left Indiana.
For now I can share pieces of J's life with you all.
My note to the family: "Thank you for sharing him with us. He will forever live on in our thoughts & we will miss him greatly."

Not a day goes by that I don't feel the bitter ache in our hearts from our recent losses... but there is also great hope in them. These earthly creatures we loved so dearly are not just that, but also heavenly beings, and we cling to the knowledge we shall see them again.
You are missed.
You are loved.
